These Twelve Jesus Sent Out

Matthew 10:5-10 (NKJV) 5 "These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. 9 Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, 10 nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandWals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food."

Introductory Thoughts

In the early days of Christ's ministry, He called his disciples to follow Him, and promised that He would make them fishers of men. Still today Christ is calling men and women to follow, and promises to make them fishers of men and women.

Sermons

Ellen G. White

"Ye Are The Light Of The World"

"Christ has bought his church and washed her with his own precious blood, clothing her with garments of salvation. He has made her the depository of his law, and he has transferred to her in a high and holy sense the work to be wrought in his name. That work which Christ did upon the earth through his teachings and miracles his followers are called upon to carry forward by earnest love for souls for whom he has paid an infinite price, by the power and beauty of holiness, by sacrifice, by positive obedience to all of God’s commandments, by continual self-denial, and undying zeal. Thus they are to exemplify the life of Christ, and be as a city set on a hill which cannot be hid. {PrT November 4, 1886, par. 11} (Read the rest of this wonderful article on the church being the light of the world.)

Missionary's Dependence On God

"There will come times when the church will be stirred by divine power, and earnest activity will be the result; for the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit will inspire its members to go forth and bring souls to Christ. But when this activity is manifested, the most earnest workers will be safe only as they depend upon God through constant, earnest prayer."

Encourage Lay Ministry

"The fear of evil being done by uneducated ones has led to the neglect of many talents, and has caused men to feel no travail of soul for a perishing world. This neglect to employ the means that might have been set in operation to carry forward God’s work has resulted in a dearth of laborers, and has cut off a vast amount of good from God’s people." {Ms64-1894.3}

Prepare for Christ's Return

"As those who have received the light of present truth exercise a living faith in Christ, as they labor together with him in soul winning, what a work will be accomplished! For such laborers the angels of God will open ways and furnish opportunities, and will cooperate with the human agent, that he may not run in vain, neither labor in vain." - {RH November 12, 1914 Par. 13}

Personal Work In Australia

This is a highly instructive excerpt where she discusses the way prejudice was overcome and people were reached when she was living in Cooranbong, Australia. The same personal work in other places would also yield positive results.

Christ's Manner Of Teaching

In this short article from Signs of the Times, key insights are shared on how we should also work. Please read this to learn how to help people turn from sin to obedience.

Bear A Message Of Love, Uncoated By Rebuke

This is an excerpt from a letter to a Pastor Palmer who was working with her son Edson in Nashville, T, who had an honest heart, but was living too sumptuously [to expensively] to make a proper impression on others. The overall letter is amazing as Ellen White shares that God specifically told her to help him. She details his uneconomical ways and how it is making the wrong impression upon others. She encourages him to return to God who is waiting to bring him into a high level of spirituality, and to make soul-winning a major part of his life. At the end of the letter there are several paragraphs which are most helpful.

Dan Augsburger

Try Love

This sermon on the Samaritan Woman reveals how Jesus overcame prejudice and reached a burdened and heartsick soul in His day. He asked for her help, He offered her hope, He offered her something better, exposed her so that she would know how much He loved her and finally revealed that He was the Messiah. In encouraging others to meet Jesus for themselves, the woman invited her people to come and see the man who knew all about her. Everyone already knew about her! But there was something about the way He knew her that caused the people to come out and meet Him for themselves. There is food for thought, principles to discover and a wonderful example to follow in this story.
