In this class we will be learning how to do research in the writings of Ellen White. In the course of our time together, we will be looking at five different subjects: Prayer, Preparing for the Latter Rain, Forgiving, Raising Children and Victory. Some attendees may want to look at alternative subjects, which is fine as well.
I will be sharing the things that I learned in doing research on transformation for the Ellen White Encyclopedia, and since, on other projects (Godhead and Unity for example).
We will learn about boolean search commands, developing "strings" to find quotes, spend time looking for quotes and documents, and then discuss some of what we are finding. This is a hands-on class.
Please bring your device with the EGW writings app installed if possible.
These resources will be added day by day ahead of class (hopefully) so that you can have them available.

Class Handout On Search Tips And Commands
This is one of the best serious "feel good" books written that I have read and heartily recommend. David Paulson trained at Battle Creek and the University of Michigan, later served as a physician in Battle Creek, accepted a mission assignment to the poor in Chicago leaving a beautiful home on a lake in Battle Creek, and later founded Hinsdale Hospital which today is located in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois (USA).
This handout shares a large number of Church, or supportive church websites so that members can tap into the ocean of information available, in many cases free.

In this document I share twenty-two different reasons that might be considered in seeking to understand why prayers are not being answered.
This is a wonderful article on prayer that we will use to learn about word prayers. This is only one of many to be found in the writings of Ellen White.
Elder Meade MacGuire was and is one of the leading writers on righteousness by faith and practical Christianity in the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He often wrote on victory and overcoming, but he also wrote much on being ready for Jesus to come, including the Latter Rain. Regarding the latter rain, he clearly showed that God calls for all besetments—failings—to be overcome before Jesus returns, and that He will also provide the way to do so. Of course our salvation is still one hundred percent based on the death of Christ—forensic righteousness by faith, but also living by faith—practical right living. I have posted the original eleven articles in the first link, and then a shortened version in the next links that is made up entirely of the quotations used in the article. I do so to demonstrate that he, along with many denominational writers, were careful students of the Spirit of prophecy, and thus a good source for finding important articles and manuscripts from the writings of Ellen White.
This handout considers Christ's admonition that those who have been wronged, or aware of a wrong, are to first privately go the offender and try to work things out. Otherwise the Bible calls for two or three to go. If that does not, it calls for the matter being taken up by the church board.
Ellen White's Way of Disciplining Children
This handout shares important quotes on transformation as well as excerpts of two articles in which Ellen White is writing individuals relative to the transformation needed in their lives. The first, Henri Frey, was working for J. N. Andrews at the mission in Basel Switzerland in spite of the fact that he was completely unconverted and completely weak to every temptation that came his way. The second excerpt comes from a letter to the Maxon's who insisted that their bodies required meat, in which Ellen White assures them that they can quit if they start God's way, from the inside, instead of the outside that always brings failure.
